44 Monthly is a collective magazine that started during the Covid-19 pandemic in China and produced 10 issues since. Contributors join an experimental workflow, initially online, then evolving towards other forms and materials. In the trajectory of the exhibition of recent activities and publications of 44 Monthly at Synnika, a new issue will be produced to be launched at the end of 2024 at HBStation Contemporary Art Research Center in Guangzhou (CHN) as well as in Frankfurt (Main).
“Convergence des Temps 时空伴随” refers to the intercontinental influence on the early social revolutionary movements in China in the beginning of the 20th century. It also stands for the social contagion that amplified the production and circulation of the 44 Monthly magazine during the Corona crises, when the convergence of time and place became a medical and policed cause for social distancing. During the lockdown measures, the magazine became a dynamic form for collective practice and interaction, enabling contributors living in various cities mainly in the south of China (such as Guangzhou, Shanghai, Kunming, Hong Kong) to connect across the lockdown. The various editions of the magazine reconstruct a local and transnational history of radical theory and practice referring to, for instance, the so called Paris Group, and the magazine Tianyi Bao, or the first Tofu factory in France founded by Chinese anarchists – these initiatives from early 20th century were pushing for transnational exchange, also by translations of pamphlets, letters, articles and books of revolutionary writers like He Zhen, Ba Jin, Liu Shifu, Li Shizeng, Emma Goldman, Élisée Reclus, Kropotkin, Marx and many others. The convergence of these times with ours is significant: in the recent decades western centers of global economy shifted central infrastructures to regions like the Pearl River Delta, that in the present became the largest urban industrial area in the world with Guangzhou as its capital harbor city. Beyond the reflection of merely economical relations 44 Monthly and Synnika will build common concepts and methods to construct a new publication supported by HBStation Contemporary Art Research Center in Guangzhou.
44 Monthly is an extension of Theater 44 and evolved from a shared COVID-19 experience. Theater 44 has been active since 2016 as a collaborative platform with participants located around the globe. Theatre 44 consists of curators, artists, filmmakers, researchers, journalists, activists and musicians, and each project involves different team constellations. In early 2020, Theater 44 initiated 44 Monthly, a self-publication and community experiment where quarantined individuals got together online and form temporary communities through projects of collective writing, editing, art and design. Till this day, 44 Monthly has released 9 publications, 4 short films, 1 radio drama, and two multi-media spatial installations. After the lockdown, its members went on field trips to Sanya, Yangjiang, and Shanghai which inspired more collaborative projects. 44 Monthly experiments with interdependent productions and responds to social issues via ethical organizing and everyday life practice.

While there are significant differences in their chemistry and biochemistry, soy products can be used as alternatives to dairy in many cases. "Convergence des Temps 时空伴随 "指的是20世纪初中国早期革命运动与世界各地的交错连接。它还关于在新冠疫情期间《44月报》产生的社会背景：与病毒感染者发生时间与空间的交错将会成为被强制隔离的原因。在新冠封锁期间，线上共同写作创造出临时共同体，使生活在不同城市（如广州、上海、昆明、沈阳、香港、纽约等）的投稿人能够跨越封锁进行交流。各期杂志重构了激进理论和实践的本地和跨国历史，例如，所谓的《新世纪》（巴黎出版）和《天义报》（东京出版）杂志，或由中国无政府主义者在法国创办的第一家豆腐工厂——这些20 世纪初的倡议都在推动跨国交流，同时也促进了中国无政府主义的发展。《44月报》和Synnika将与广州黄边站当代艺术研究中心一起，对这些关系进行思考，并尝试建立共同的概念和方法并完成一个新的出版物。

44 Monthly ist eine kollektive Zeitschrift, die während der Corona-Pandemie in China entstand und seitdem 10 Ausgaben produziert hat. Die Mitwirkenden beteiligen sich an einem experimentellen Arbeitsablauf, zunächst online und dann in diversen anderen Formen und Materialien. Die Ausstellung der jüngsten Aktivitäten und Publikationen von 44 Monthly im Synnika wird eine neue Ausgabe hervorbringen, die Ende 2024 im HBStation Contemporary Art Research Center in Guangzhou (CHN) und in Frankfurt (Main) veröffentlicht wird.
"Convergence des Temps 时空伴随" bezieht sich auf interkontinentale Einflüsse innerhalb der sozial-revolutionären Bewegungen in China zu Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts. Der Ausstellungstitel steht auch für die sozialen Formen von Ansteckung, die die Produktion und Verbreitung von 44 Monthly während der Corona-Krise verstärkte, als die Konvergenz von Zeit und Ort zu einem medizinischen und polizeilichen Imperativ sozialer Distanzierung wurde. Während der Lockdown-Maßnahmen wurde die Zeitschrift zu einer dynamischen Form kollektiver Praxis und Interaktion, die es den in verschiedenen Städten, vor allem im Süden Chinas (z. B. Guangzhou, Shanghai, Kunming und Hongkong), lebenden Teilnehmer*innen ermöglichte, sich jenseits des Lockdowns zu vernetzen. Die verschiedenen Ausgaben des Magazins rekonstruieren eine lokale und transnationale Geschichte radikaler Theorie und Praxis, die sich zum Beispiel auf die so genannte Pariser Gruppe bezieht, oder die Zeitschrift Tianyi Bao, oder die erste Tofu-Fabrik in Frankreich, die von chinesischen Anarchist*innen gegründet wurde - diese Initiativen aus dem frühen 20. Jahrhundert realisierten einen transnationalen Austausch auch durch die Übersetzung von Pamphleten, Briefen, Artikeln und Büchern revolutionärer Autor*innen wie He Zhen, Ba Jin, Liu Shifu, Li Shizeng, Emma Goldman, Élisée Reclus, Kropotkin, Marx und vielen anderen. Die Überschneidung dieser Zeit mit der unseren ist bezeichnend: In den letzten Jahrzehnten verlagerten die westlichen Zentren der globalen Wirtschaft zentrale Infrastrukturen in Regionen wie das Perlflussdelta, das sich in der Gegenwart zum größten urbanen Industriegebiet der Welt, mit Guangzhou als Haupthafenstadt, entwickelt hat. Unterstützt durch HBStation Contemporary Art Research Center in Guangzhou werden 44 Monthly und Synnika über diese ökonomischen Beziehungen hinaus gemeinsame Konzepte und Methoden entwickeln, um neue Veröffentlichungen zu realisieren.
44 Monthly ist eine Erweiterung von Theater 44 und hat sich aus einer gemeinsamen Erfahrung mit COVID-19 im Süden Chinas entwickelt. Theater 44 ist seit 2016 als kollaborative Plattform mit Teilnehmern aus der ganzen Welt aktiv. Kuratoren, Künstler, Filmemacher, Forscher, Journalisten, Aktivisten und Musiker bilden das Theater 44, und jedes Projekt bringt unterschiedliche Konstellationen zusammen. Anfang 2020 rief das Theater 44-Kollektiv das Publikationsprojekt 44 Monthly ins Leben, ein Gemeinschaftsexperiment im Selbstverlag, bei dem Einzelpersonen, die sich in Quarantäne befanden, online zusammenkamen und durch gemeinsame Schreib-, Redaktions- und Gestaltungsprojekte temporäre Gemeinschaften bildeten. Bis heute hat 44 Monthly 9 Publikationen, 4 Kurzfilme, 1 Hörspiel und zwei multimediale Rauminstallationen veröffentlicht. Nach dem Lockdown unternahmen die Mitglieder Exkursionen in Städte wie Sanya, Yangjiang und Shanghai, die zu weiteren gemeinsamen Projekten führten. 44 Monthly erprobt interdependente Gestaltung und reagiert auf soziale Fragen durch ethische Organisation und Alltagspraxis.
