Vanessa A. Opoku is a visual artist and DJ. With the help of film and photography, animation, 3D scans and AI, she explores the border areas of mixed reality.

At Synnika she shows works that can be understood as an examination of those traces that people leave in their surroundings and that are burned into landscapes and places. In conversation with poems by the Jewish poet Mascha Kaléko and the Afro-German poet May Ayim, which serve as a data set for an artificial intelligence, a monologue emerges in which a new, fictional lyric self is formed. Through the medium of this virtual being, the artist not only asks questions about identity, but also answers them with self-empowerment by placing the statements generated by the AI ​​in a context that gives rise to a decided stance.

The installation at Synnika is supported by: Kulturamt Frankfurt, Stiftung Kunstfonds and the federal funding program Neustart Kultur.

Vanessa A. Opoku ist bildende Künstlerin und DJ. Mit Hilfe von Film und Fotografie, Animation, 3D-Scans und KI erforscht sie die Grenzgebiete der gemischten Realität.

Im Synnika zeigt sie Arbeiten, die als Auseinandersetzung mit den­jenigen Spuren verstanden werden können, die Menschen in ihrer Umgebung hinterlassen und die sich in Landschaften und Orte einbrennen. In Konversation mit Gedichten der jüdischen Lyrikerin Mascha Kaléko und der afro-deutschen Dichterin May Ayim, die als Datensatz für eine künstliche Intelligenz dienen, entsteht ein Monolog, in dem sich ein neues, fiktives Lyrisches Ich formiert. Durch das Medium dieses virtuellen Wesens hindurch stellt die Künstlerin nicht nur Fragen nach Identität, sondern beantwortet sie mit Selbst­ermächtigung, indem sie die von der KI generierten Aussagen in einen Kontext setzt, aus dem sich eine dezidierte Haltung ergibt.
