Gentrification Critique as Ressentiment

Indignation against gentrification repeatedly finds expression in conformist revolts, from local patriotism to homeland security. The targets of such protests are often particular categories of groupings, such as hipsters, artists, or so-called speculators, who are marked as the cause of the problem. In this workshop we will talk about the possible backgrounds and necessary alternatives to these errant forms of gentrification critique.

The workshop will take place both online and on-site at Synnika - please register for participation by email to hello [at] synnika.space. The language of discussion is German (with English translation available).

Gentrifizierungskritik als Ressentiment

Empörung gegen Gentrifizierung findet ihren Ausdruck immer wieder auch in konformistischen Revolten, von Kiezhygiene bis Heimatschutz. Zielscheibe solcher Proteste sind dann oftmals bestimmte Personengruppen wie Hipster, Künstler*innen oder so genannte Spekulanten, die als Verursacher des Übels markiert werden. In diesem Workshop werden wir über die möglichen Hintergründe und notwendigen Alternativen zu solch fehllaufenden Formen der Gentrifizierungskritik sprechen.

Der Workshop wird sowohl Online als auch vor Ort im Synnika stattfinden - Anmeldungen zur Teilnahme bitte per Email an hello [at] synnika.space. Die Veranstaltung findet in deutscher Sprache statt (bei Bedarf mit Englisch-Übersetzung).
